The Big 3 Special Issue of Solidarity Magazine is now online!

Once again, UAW Local 3303 in Butler, Pennsylvania sponsored a night at the ballpark to watch the Blue Sox baseball game.

The Milwaukee, Wisconsin Chapter of CBTU (Coalition of Black Trade Unionists) held its first annual “Camp Union” from June 19-23. The Milwaukee Chapter headed by UAW Local 469 member DiAndre Jackson put together the initiative to hold the weeklong day camp where junior high and senior high school students would have the opportunity to learn about organized labor and the union’s role in society.

UAW Region 2B Director Ken Lortz retired May 31 after 47 years as an active member of our union. Lortz, served as Region 2B director and as a member of the UAW International Executive Board since April 2009.

It has been a busy year so allow me to briefly share with you what our region and active and retired members have been doing and where we are headed.

As I was preparing for this segment of Region 1 action line, I was given an excellent article written by Ken Lambert, past president of Local 2280. Retired Director Joe Peters released it in September-October 2009.

I believe it is worthy of being re-released for the benefit of our newer membership and as a reminder to everyone that the union has made a tremendous impact on society and it continues to fight for ALL workers:

Every three years during the spring, many of our local unions in Region 1A go through their elections. It’s a cornerstone of our great union’s democracy where members in good standing decide who they want to represent them. The process can be lively, to say the least, as candidates campaign on their records or for change.
