Charles McDonald

Retiree Chair Charles McDonald, originally from the coal fields of Kentucky, went north to work for General Motors. He transferred to the Alabama Site and headed up efforts to organize the workers there. In 1984, the Alabama Site was organized. Charles McDonald served as Shop Chair and was later elected President. Charles served as President until he was appointed to the International Staff, working in organizing. He worked his way up to being the Region 8 Organizing Director, as Region 8 led the UAW for several years in organizing victories.

When Charles retired he was elected Local 2195 Retiree Chair and has served in that capacity ever since. He and wife Joyce make their home in Athens, Alabama.
